Review #8: Rookie Yearbook Four

Rookie Yearbook Four - edited by Tavi Gevinson
Penguin Random House
2015

My immediate thought when I finally held the book in my hands was "wow, it's much bigger/heavier than expected". Well, naturally. The book has 352 pages no less, jam packed with words, advice, art and colours. I am absolutely delighted to present my favourite pages. RookieMag.com has been a place of solace, education, entertainment and happiness all in one. Despite being just past the age demographic at age 20, I still will be going back to read it as much as I can. You're never too young to learn. I'm going to post pictures of my favourite pages.

Review #7 So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson

So You've Been Publicly Shamed - Jon Ronson
MacMillan (2015)

“We are defining the boundaries of normality by tearing apart the people outside it.”

When it comes to me and books, I'm either at a loss for things to read, or a book has come at the right time in my life. This has happened to me on numerous occasions and, luckily for you readers, has happened again this week, Sunday to be exact, even though the book was only released two months ago.

Review #5: Paper Towns by John Green

Paper Towns - John Green
Penguin USA
(2009)

“What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person.”

(SPOILERS MAY BE PRESENT)

I went to see the Paper Towns as a film yesterday and I thought since I'd only read the book just before watching the film, I'd review both. I am not an avid reader of John Green books by any means. I've read maybe three books written by him.

Review #4 Cash: The Autobiography by Johnny Cash

Cash: The Autobiography- Johnny Cash
Harper Collins
(1997)

During the past while, I've been doing quite a bit of travelling and during that time I've been devouring this book on my tablet. Just finishing it on my flight left me heart broken.
The only autobiography to match this one in style, which I've read, would have to be 'A Drink With Shane MacGowan'. This being because it follow the 'record yourself on tape and then have it written down' method, which keeps a good flow of coherent language, and keeps the reader perfectly grounded throughout. It's like having a conversation with the man in black himself.

Review #3 War Horse by Michael Morpurgo

15:22 No Cat Got My Tongue 0 Comments

War Horse - Michael Morpurgo
Egmont UK Limited.
(1982)

You may have noticed that so far all three books being reviewed on this blog are books that were released years ago. But I know for a fact there are many many books out there older than myself that are amazing, I just haven't read them yet. I grew up reading Michael Morpurgo's books. I don't think you should go a lifetime without reading at least one. I also think you can enjoy his books no matter what age you are. They are timeless. Without further delay I hope to give you a quick summary of the book and I hope you enjoy.

Review #2 - How To Be A Woman by Caitlin Moran

Caitlin Moran, How to be a Woman Cover.jpg

You know how people sometimes say that a book can come along at the right time in life? And how others speak of a book having the ability to change their lives? Well that is exactly what this book was to me. I first came across it at the age of 16 after it was recommended by a friend. This is the book that I need to keep with me at all times, as a safety blanket of sorts.
